    Youth Parliament

    AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF YOUTH PARLIAMENT COMPETITION

    Youth parliament is a platform offered to the youngsters where they are given a mock parliament set-up and exposure to the parliament type Debate. It is significant due to following reasons:-

    1. In order to create a set of youngsters who have an idea of the parliament, the best way is to make them sit in that environment.
    2. It is a platform to discuss the national issue on a large scale in a proper forum and in front of the experienced moderators.
    3. It brings the like-minded youngsters on the same platform and offers a chance for the creation of a community to discuss and come up with the possible solutions.

    The purposes of Youth Parliament are as follows:-

    1. To develop in students an insight into the working parliament.
    2. To make students consider public issues and form their opinion on them.
    3. To train students in the technique of group discussion.
    4. To develop in students an ability to arrive at decision after group discussion.
    5. To develop respect and tolerance for the views of others.
    6. To make students aware of various problems faced by our society and the country.
    7. To create in students the quality of leadership. Understand the common man’s point of view and express it in an articulated manner.

    There are four schemes currently running in youth parliament. The scheme was first introduced in the school in Delhi in 1966-67.

    1. Colleges
    2. Navodaya Vidyalayas
    3. Kendriya Vidyalayas (All region conduct Youth Parliament at two level i.e Regional and National Level)
    4. Delhi Public School

    The officers from ministry of Parliamentary Affairs first of all visit the universities and school and train the teachers so that they can better prepare their group of studies for taking part in the completion.
    Thereafter, competitions take place at each level and finally the last round will take place in parliamentary library building and the winning team will be awarded by the chief guest.
    So basically it’s a scheme being run by the ministry to create awareness among the youth of our nation about the working /functioning of the parliament of India so that at least they can get an insight about the nature of work and ultimately they can later percolate the same among others.
